According to the CDC, over 2.4 million combined STD cases are reported across the U.S. each year. These statistics do not even include those who have STDs but may not know it, don’t get tested, etc.

Population is one of the main reasons Montana ranked so low on the list. As you might expect, states with larger populations have the highest reported STD cases. The three states with the highest STD rates are Mississippi, Louisiana, and Georgia.

What Precautions Should You Take If You're Sexually Active?

According to the CDC, getting tested for STDs is one of the most important things you can do to protect your health. Make sure you have an open and honest conversation about your sexual history and STD testing with your doctor and ask whether you should be tested for STDs. If you are uncomfortable talking with your regular healthcare provider about STDs, many clinics provide confidential and free or low-cost testing.
