Real Things You See in Montana That People Can’t Believe
Montana is full of things that people from out of state have a hard time believing. If you told most people that something called Rocky Mountain Oysters were a delicacy in Big Sky Country, they'd think you were crazy.
There’s a reason Montana is called the “Last Best Place,” and a lot of it comes down to the things you only find here. Most people don't know that the population is barely over a million, and that there are more cattle than humans. Honestly, I can't confirm the cattle statistic nowadays, but I'm pretty sure it was true at one point.
Winters in Montana catch many people from out of state by surprise. This winter has been strange and warmer than usual, but normally, winters are brutal and last eight or nine months. When you add the fact that roads are covered in snow and ice all of the time, things can get pretty dicey. People from out of state can't understand why the roads are always so bad.

Look, I'm not trying to bash on anyone who's not from Montana. I get it, most people aren't these days, including myself. I love living here, and when I tell people about my crazy experiences, they think I'm making it up.
For example, watching a herd of three to four hundred elk crossing the highway. Another good one is driving through the canyon from Bozeman to Big Sky and getting stopped by Bighorn Sheep standing in the middle of the road.
I also like telling that story about an otter stealing my fish on the Gallatin River while I was reeling it in, or a grizzly bear stalking me while I was fishing on the Madison south of Ennis.
All of these things are real, even if you don't believe them. Montana is still a wild place.
