These Are the Richest Places in Montana Right Now
Montana has been a popular destination for wealthy Americans seeking to trade big-city life for a simpler, more laid-back lifestyle. Forbes released a list of the richest places in Big Sky Country, and the number one spot on the list might surprise you.
Big Sky, Bozeman, and Whitefish are among Montana's richest cities, but none of them were at the top of Forbes' new ranking. Instead, their pick was a luxurious housing community west of Bozeman in the Gallatin Valley.

One thing is for certain. Montana has undergone significant changes, and it doesn't appear that the growth the state has experienced will slow down anytime soon. Just look at the population growth.

Montana has absolutely transformed over the last 50 years. Its population has increased by 64%, from 694,409 in 1970 to 1,137,233 in 2024.
Montana is still among the least populated states in the U.S., but a large percentage of new residents are considerably wealthy.
What is the Richest Place in Montana?
According to Forbes, the richest place in Montana is Gallatin River Ranch. It's a housing community in the foothills north of Manhattan, Montana. At one point, you could purchase a 20-acre lot for around $100,000. Sadly, those days are long gone. Forbes used data from the U.S. Census Bureau to compile the list.
In Gallatin River Ranch, the median home value is $1,388,900, making it the most expensive place to buy a home in the state of Montana. Rollins, an unincorporated community on the east side of Flathead Lake, ranked second.
It's funny that many of the places included on the list aren't cities. Instead, they're areas where rich people bought up land that has a history of being used for farming and ranching. 10 years ago, the Gallatin Ricer Ranch wouldn't have been anywhere near the top of the list. It's crazy how quickly things change.
