Early Hints for Record Store Day Black Friday Special Releases
We’ve already filled you in on a few releases for this year’s Record Store Day Black Friday event, like never-before-heard songs from Conor Oberst or brand-new music from Faith No More. If that wasn't exciting enough, vinyl fanatics, brace yourselves: We've just landed on a wealth of information for the upcoming holiday.
First off, for you film buffs, the soundtrack for ‘American Hustle’ will be available as a double-LP, pressed on red and blue vinyl, featuring six songs not on the CD version.
Jazz fans will be excited to learn Miles Davis’ 7-inch for ‘Blue Xmas’ b/w ‘Devil May Care’ will be pressed on blue vinyl in a brand-new picture sleeve. Christmas tidings don’t end there; Bessie Smith’s ‘At the Christmas Ball’ b/w ‘Jazzbo Brown From Memphis Town’ will be at your favorite indie shop, pressed on red vinyl and featuring a replica of the original Columbia 78 RPM center label. Oh, and just because we’re on the topic of Christmas, Wham!’s ‘Last Christmas’ will be released as a 12-inch single, pressed on translucent split red and green vinyl.
It’s not all Christmas, though. David Bowie’s ‘Sue (Or In a Season of Crime)’ will be available as a 10-inch single, b/w ‘’Tis a Pity She Was a Whore’ and the radio edit of ‘Sue.’ Following suit in the 10-inch arena, First Aid Kit are giving fans their cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s ‘America’ b/w the unreleased ‘Brother’ -- as well as two acoustic tracks from their latest album, ‘Stay Gold.’
Dave Matthews Band fans have reason to get excited: The act’s original 1994 EP, ‘Recently,’ will be released as a deluxe, individually numbered 10-inch, and will also include the rare promo EP, ‘Pumpkin Recently.’
And classic rockers, don’t you fret as there will be special releases for you from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and the Kinks. Hendrix’s ‘Hear My Music’ is a double-LP featuring unreleased recordings from the studio in 1969, pressed on 200-gram wax; it’s an authorized bootleg by Dagger Records and will be individually numbered. As for the Kinks, shoppers will get their hands on the ‘Legacy Edition’ of their 1971 ‘Muswell Hillbillies.’ The deluxe double-LP features the original LP paired with a bonus disc of rarities and outtakes from the ‘Muswell’ sessions -- as well as BBC sessions recorded for the legendary British radio DJ, John Peel.
And in case you didn’t hear, the ‘Ghostbusters’ soundtrack is celebrating its 30th anniversary and will be released as the ‘Stay Puft Edition.’ This is a limited-edition package featuring the No. 1 hit single, ‘Ghostbusters,’ by Ray Parker Jr. as well as the Run-DMC version from the movie’s sequel. Besides the 'Stay Puft' gatefold jacket and 3D inserts, the vinyl is -- wait for it -- marshmallow scented.
The above releases are just the tip of the iceberg. The official release list comes out next week and will be packed full of goodies; we want to give a big thank you to Bull Moose for hooking us up with this insider info ahead of time!
