Spanish chef Daniel Sancho Bronchalo, famous for his YouTube channel, "Pero Disfrute," has been sentenced to life in prison.

The 30-year-old was convicted of murdering surgeon Edwin Arrieta Arteaga last August while they were on vacation in Thailand, reported CBS News.

Bronchalo reportedly murdered his friend, and then dismembered his body on the island of Koh Phangan.

Sancho was initially sentenced to death, but his sentence was commuted to life in prison.

According to the AP, Sancho pleaded not guilty at trial, claiming he was acting in self-defense, claiming that Arteaga tried to sexually assault him.

A lawyer for the victim's family, Bussakorn Kaewleeled, explained that they were pleased with the outcome of the trial.

"The plaintiff is satisfied with the sentence because he will be put in prison for life and they receive some financial compensation," Kaewleeled told reporters.

"The verdict has been delivered, both sides have the right to appeal according to Thai law," Kaewleeled said.

When asked about Sancho's reaction to the verdict, she stated: "He is sad, but we can't forget the loss of the dead one."
