Air quality in Libby and Thompson Falls is poor enough that an Air Quality Alert has been issued and Lincoln County has indoor and outdoor burning restrictions in place.

According to the National Weather Service:

THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY HAS ISSUED AN AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR LINCOLN COUNTY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9AM AM ON 1/20/2017.

  • CAUSE - ELEVATED PARTICULATE CONCENTRATIONS.
  • LINCOLN COUNTY HAS LOCAL INDOOR AND OUTDOOR BURNING RESTRICTIONS IN PLACE.  
  • AN AIR QUALITY ALERT MEANS THAT PARTICULATES HAVE BEEN TRENDING UPWARDS AND EXCEED THE 24 HOUR NATIONAL AMBIENT AIR QUALITY STANDARD (NAAQS) HAS OCCURRED OR MAY OCCUR IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
  • PARTICULATE LEVELS IN THOMPSON FALLS AND LIBBY ARE UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS.
  • STATE AND LOCAL HEALTH OFFICIALS RECOMMEND THAT PEOPLE WITH RESPIRATORY OR HEART DISEASE, THE ELDERLY AND CHILDREN SHOULD LIMIT PROLONGED EXERTION.
