Bozeman Police Warn Residents to Avoid Telephone Scam
The Bozeman Police Department is warning residents to avoid a new telephone scam targeting those living in the Gallatin Valley.
Law Enforcement officials have received multiple calls on this scam lately.
A person calls a victim and they claim to be with the DEA or ATF. The “DEA Agent” then tells the victim that a rental car was recovered in Texas with several pounds of drugs inside.
The agent then says the rental car was rented by the person they are speaking with and must provide their social security number for them to get off the hook. The agent then transfers the victim to their “supervisor” and the supervisor directs the victim to go buy gift cards at a department store.
If you receive a suspicious call from a scammer. Please call 406-582-2000 and report it to the Bozeman Police Department.
