Flood Watch and Ice Jams for Milk River Near Glasgow
Levels on the Milk River have risen quickly due to ice jams, prompting a Flood Watch for the area near Glasgow.
According to the National Weather Service:
THE FLOOD WATCH IS NOW IN EFFECT FOR A PORTION OF NORTHEAST MONTANA, INCLUDING CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN VALLEY.
- TIMING - THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON
- AN ICE JAM HAS FORMED ON THE MILK RIVER IN THE GLASGOW AREA.
- THIS HAS CAUSED THE RIVER LEVEL TO RISE TO 21.3 FEET AS OF 11:30 AM SUNDAY.
- FLOOD STAGE FOR THE MILK RIVER AT GLASGOW IS 25 FEET.
- AN ICE JAM COULD PRODUCE A QUICK AND SUDDEN RISE IN RIVER LEVEL WITH FLOODING OCCURRING WITH LITTLE NOTICE.
- THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
