
WARNING: Strong 60+ MPH Winds Will Pummel East Glacier Area
Tuesday is expected to be very windy in several counties of northern Montana, to the east of Glacier National Park. Gusty winds will develop Tuesday morning and continue through most of the day, creating hazardous travel conditions for high profile vehicles.
- Strong winds are likely to develop by late Tuesday morning and then continue through the afternoon hours for areas along the Rocky Mountain Front.
- This includes areas around Choteau, Browning and Heart Butte, along with Highway 89 from Choteau to the U.S. Canadian border.
- Sustained winds of 35 to 45 mph will be possible, with wind gusts near 60 mph out over the Plains and up to 70 mph near the mountains.
- Those traveling in this area later today should be prepared for strong wind gusts.
A more specific High Wind Warning was issued Tuesday for Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, and Central Pondera Counties. This is what the Montana DOT camera at Two Medicine Bridge looked like this morning at 8am:

- WHAT...West winds 35 to 45 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
- WHERE...Eastern Glacier, Western Toole, and Central Pondera Counties.
- WHEN...From 11 AM Tuesday morning to 5 PM this afternoon.
- IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remember, a High Wind Warning means that there is at least an 80% chance of 40 mph sustained winds or 58 mph wind gusts occurring during the warning period.
