Montana weather has become dangerous with high temperatures of 100 or more, very low humidity, and windy conditions in portions of the state. Wildfires are burning and smoke has made air quality unhealthy.

A week of extreme temperatures have delivered wildfire season to Montana. Southwest Montana is facing a Red Flag Warning as more heat, wind, and dry conditions are expected to continue through the weekend.

Western Montana will be challenged by extremely high temperatures starting on Tuesday, with the risk of heat exhaustion becoming a real concern throughout the week. Temperatures near 100 will be common, and conditions will be very uncomfortable.

By Tuesday night, several high elevation locations in Montana will be covered in snow from a classic, powerful Spring storm. Mountain passes and back country areas will be difficult to navigate with up to a foot of heavy, wet snow piling up.

All day Wednesday is looking to be quite windy on Fort Peck Lake and the surrounding area. The main concern is for boaters in small crafts. Winds up to 40 mph are expected throughout the day. Those winds pose a real danger for small boats and watercrafts.

Heavy rain paired with rapid snowmelt in the mountains have triggered a Flood Advisory for southwest Montana. Small streams and creeks are at the highest risk of flooding on Monday. Water may be found on roadways across several counties in southwest Montana.

Although the Yellowstone National Park area is very seismically active and thought of as "that super volcano", Montana itself is only the 9th most seismically active state in America. In the last week, there have been 15 quakes - 1 of which was above magnitude of 3.0 and it was near Belgrade.

Montana travelers need to stay on their toes through Wednesday morning for very strong winds for most of western half of the state. Gusts up to 65 mph will be a hazard for dozens of counties.

Thursday is going to be quite windy on Fort Peck Lake with thunderstorms possible throughout the day in the surrounding area. Wind gusts up to 35 mph or more will create hazardous conditions for any small craft on the lake.

Spring rain and heavy, wet snowmelt are prompting new flooding issues in parts of Montana. Mountain streams and flatland rivers are both experiencing flooding problems. With over a foot more of new snow expected to fall in many (high elevation) places across Montana, flood warnings should be taken very seriously.

Dangerous winds of up to 60 mph are howling through the I-90 corridor and southwest Montana on Friday. Travel may be difficult for tall, high profile vehicles. Towing units might get blown around on the open roads as well.
