There are plenty of old sayings or “old wives’ tales” that people around Montana still swear by.

And out here, there are also a lot of folks who’ll tell you certain animal behavior can tip you off to a storm before the weather forecast ever catches up.

Why Animal Weather Signs Became Common Beliefs

I’m not saying there’s hard science behind all of it, but there is a long history behind those beliefs.

Ranchers, farmers, and outdoorsmen have always paid close attention to animals. Even if they’re not exactly “predicting” the weather, animals can pick up on changes in air pressure, temperature, and humidity long before most of us notice anything is different.

That’s usually how these ideas take root in the first place. It’s not just myths for the sake of myths; it’s years of people paying attention to patterns in the world around them.
