It's no secret that Montanans like to have a good time.  There's a joke floating around that the only thing you need to have a town in Montana is a church, a grain elevator, a post office, and a bar.

All across Montana there are plenty of options for those that enjoy an adult beverage. We have our share of breweries and distilleries across the state and they're well-received by locals and tourists alike.

Because of our love for the drink, Montana is often mentioned in some not-so-flattering statistics.

Montana ranks 1st in the nation for drunk drivers, which is certainly nothing to be proud of. So just how bad is it? Well, Forbes released info scoring Montana number 1 for drunk drivers as well as deaths by drunk driving. Montana received a score of 100 out of 100, but that's not the only list Montana is making when it comes to drinking.

According to the World Population Review, one Montana city just made the list of drunkest cities in America for 2024.

While Montana might have a problem, here's the good news. At least we're not Wisconsin. The Cheese State has 7 cities in the Top 10, including the overall number one spot. However, that's another story for another day.

Which Montana city makes the list of drunkest in America for 2024?

It looks like Missoula is the only Montana city to make the list for 2024. So where did the Garden City rank? Well, according to the data, they came in 7th. Missoula has a pretty vibrant social scene and has lots of bars, clubs, and breweries around the town that serve alcohol.

Plus, let's be honest, it's probably easier to be a Griz fan if you drink.

Just in case you're curious the cities that were ahead of Missoula on the list are as follows:

  • Green Bay, WI
  • Eau Claire, WI
  • Appleton, WI
  • Madison, WI
  • Fargo, ND/MN
  • Oshkosh-Neenah, WI

It seems that most of the towns on the list have something in common, other than being located in Wisconsin. More than a couple are college towns and they're all located in the north where it gets extremely cold. So...maybe that's a factor?
