Drivers Beware! These Are Montana’s Most Dangerous Roads
Montana may be known for its wide-open spaces and breathtaking landscapes, but beneath the beauty, there's a layer of danger. For locals and visitors, driving in Big Sky Country can be dangerous, and even deadly.
With rural highways and high speeds, Montana's roads can be extremely dangerous. I was recently on Reddit and saw a thread about the deadliest highways in Montana. Since Montana is a huge state with people scattered all over. We're not all driving the same highways each day, so it's no surprise that the answers varied.
Montana's Most Dangerous Highways
US Highway 93, between Missoula and Kalispell, was the most mentioned stretch of highway in the state, and it's not just the drivers you have to worry about. The Bitterroot Valley is also full of wildlife. It's probably a good idea to keep both hands on the wheel and your high beams on after dark. If you're south of Missoula on US 93, it's also important to be careful when driving over Rogers Pass.

US Highway 191, especially between Bozeman and Big Sky, can be an absolute nightmare during the winter, so I wasn't surprised to see it mentioned multiple times. Solid ice, constant curves, and high speeds don't mix. Since the highway runs along the Gallatin River, it has become known as the "Gallatin Gauntlet."
Interstate 90 has the highest number of daily drivers in the state and requires you to navigate through several mountain passes. That can be very dangerous, especially during the winter months when everything is covered with snow and ice.
Regardless of what stretch of highway you're driving on in Montana, safety should always be number one. Pay attention, be aware of your surroundings, and don't feel the need to put the pedal to the metal just because no one is watching. Speed limits are posted for a reason.
