
STORM LATEST: Montana Snow Totals by Thursday Night
Dozens of Montana counties have seen snow fall overnight and into Thursday. Much more snow is on the way for parts of southwest Montana throughout Thursday. Some high elevations could end up with two feet of fresh snow from this spring storm.
- MADISON/GALLATIN COUNTIES: A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT TONIGHT.
- WHAT...Heavy snow expected.
- Additional snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches, with up to 8 inches in the higher terrain.
- Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
- WHERE...Big Belt, Bridger and Castle Mountains and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
- WHEN...Until midnight tonight.
- IMPACTS...Tire chains may be required for some vehicles if traveling through mountain passes.
- Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility.
VERY gusty winds are a huge concern with this spring snow storm. Highways are heavily traveled in Montana - and visibility can drop in a matter of seconds.

- WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow.
- Total snow accumulations between 1 and 2 feet.
- Winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
- WHERE...Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains.
- WHEN...Until noon Friday.
- IMPACTS...Recreation in the high country will be impacted by heavy accumulating and blowing snow.
- Avalanche danger will increase.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Locations such as Cooke City will see much lower amounts, between 4 and 8 inches.
Slushy conditions exist across most of western and southwestern Montana on Thursday, during daylight hours. Freezing could occur Thursday evening as the temperature drops. Use caution!
