Mumford and Sons Announce September 2012 Album Release Date
The wait for new Mumford and Sons music is apparently almost over. The group, who have taken their time with the follow-up to ‘Sigh No More,’ revealed to the audience at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands on Monday (May 28) that they’re eyeing a September 2012 release.
Singer Marcus Mumford was the first to mention the new album, stating that it is now finished. Later keyboardist Ben Lovett made reference to the September 2012 release. After the show, Mumford and Sons gave a video interview to 3FM Dj Roosmarijn Reijmer in which they revealed that September 24 was the exact release date. The news definitely moves up the timeline, as just last week they had stated they were sure it would arrive by the end of the year.
Lovett stated that they were still in a transition between the two records when it comes to playing live, but added, “We’re very much focused on moving forward and we’re gonna play the songs from ‘Sigh No More’ over the next few months, and I guess every band has to go through this, but we’re just figuring [the transition to new music] out.”
The band completed the set with Markus Dravs handling the production. Dravs has also worked wonders for Coldplay in recent years, and he’s reprising his role as producer after previously working on the ‘Sigh No More’ disc.
In the lead-up to the new album release, Mumford and Sons will be touring the United States. A full itinerary is expected to be announced later today, though their participation in the Jazz Aspen Festival on September 1 was leaked early.
