UPDATE: Up to 3″ Snow on Beartooth Highway by Wednesday Morning
We all know snow in Spring is no big deal in Montana. However, with tourist season already upon us, just a few inches of new snow on the Beartooth Highway could be chaotic for some.
Montana and Wyoming departments of transportation have been working very hard to open the popular Beartooth Highway for the season, with much success. But our infamous high elevation Spring storms like to throw curveballs.
NOTE: This Winter Weather Advisory expires very early on Wednesday morning and is only in effect for the high elevations of the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains. Surrounding lower elevations should not have much impact at all.
With that said, anyone who is caught in the high elevations on Tuesday evening can expect winter-like conditions, falling snow, and slick roads.
- A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM WEDNESDAY FOR THE BEARTOOTH HIGHWAY.
- WHAT...Snow showers over the Beartooth Highway.
- Additional snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches above 8000 feet.
- WHERE...Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains.
- WHEN...Until 6 AM Wednesday.
- IMPACTS...Expect winter travel conditions over the Beartooth Highway, with periods of poor visibility.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Slow down and use caution while traveling.
- Be prepared for winter like conditions above 7500 feet.
- For the latest road conditions, call 5 1 1.
"A winter weather advisory is issued by the National Weather Service to alert the public that winter weather is expected but is not severe enough to warrant a warning. These advisories indicate that winter conditions may cause inconveniences, such as slick roads and reduced visibility, but are not expected to be life-threatening if caution is exercised."
