London’s McDonald’s Get ‘Supersized’ for 2012 Olympics
Fear not, fast food aficionados — if you’re headed to London for the 2012 Olympics, you won’t have to force yourself to choke down any of bangers and mash. Instead, you’ll have a chance to eat at the world’s biggest McDonald’s. But get in line soon, because the 1,500 seat restaurant will only be open for six weeks.
The temporary restaurant, which is being constructed from recycled materials in a building in east London, will be half the size of a football field, seat 1,500 patrons and employ 2,000 workers. Reps for McDonald’s say they expect three million people to visit the location. They will be prepared to serve more than 50,000 Big Macs and 180,000 orders of fries.
Already, 12,000 people have applied to work at this jumbo McDonald’s and three others that are planned for the 2012 Olympics. The contenders have been put through ‘X-Factor’-type auditions in which they were judged on their politeness and their ability to flip burgers, serve ice cream and cook French fries.
Surprisingly, this will be the ninth time that McDonald’s is the official restaurant of the Olympics, and during the 2012 Olympics in London, it will be the only branded food retailer feeding the athletes. It’s safe to say more than one Olympic-goer will be lovin’ it.
