On October 7, Yellowstone National Park Rangers responded to a vehicle off of the road and abandoned in the park near mile post 29 on Highway 191.

A search of the area and attempts to contact the driver were unsuccessful. During the following days the Park Service requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office to check the driver’s residence and place of work. His place of business notified authorities that he had not reported for work for two shifts, so additional searches of the area were conducted, including aid from Sheriff’s Search and Rescue dogs.

On October 10, a drone from Sheriff’s Search and Rescue was utilized to search a larger area. The 29-year-old man from Big Sky was discovered deceased in the Gallatin River down stream from the crash site.

His name will be released by the Park Service after next of kin have been notified.
