Put plainly, I think perhaps people are getting pissed about paying hundreds of dollars per night for a middle-of-the-road hotel room around Bozeman. It seems that there are more and more fairly bad reviews of even our well thought of establishments.

Online reviews have never been a make or break for me when it comes to businesses I want to try. In the age of Karen, you never know who's going to whine about absolutely frivolous stuff. It's best to judge for yourself.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: Any pictures of hotels included in this article are NOT necessarily those mentioned in the "bad reviews". Heck, we just needed some hotel photos. Now you know.)

But we did notice an uptick in not-so-great reviews for Bozeman area hotels in recent months, and I can't help but think that expectations are obviously out of sync with current prices.

Are people just bitter about the high prices? Do they now expect five star service and amenities from an average chain just because supply and demand has pushed the price sky high?

Take a look at some reviews we found and see what YOU think. A little harsh for what the complaint is actually about?

(part of a ONE STAR review): "We came home after a long day and the room was untouched. Bed not made, wet towels still on the floor....nothing. Call front desk and they said you must request room service at the time of checking in for your stay."  In this COVID/post-COVID day and age, isn't that one of the drawbacks of most hotels? We thought almost all of them have rolled back housekeeping services to upon request service. Kind of petty for a ONE star review.

(part of a ONE STAR review): "No elevator. There was ice and snow and nobody offering to help with my luggage." This one killed me because it's so ridiculous and unfair to the hotel. You couldn't possibly book this hotel and NOT know it was only two stories and an elevator was unlikely. Not to mention a "bellhop". WTH do they expect, really?

(part of a ONE STAR review): "This is NOT a hotel, it's a motel. The the cars are parked 12 feet from my front door. Every time someone retrieves something from their car, I am privileged to hear the beep beep beep." I can't even respond to this one. You KNEW what you were getting when you booked this place...unless you've never stayed at a motel before.

(part of a ONE STAR review): "The only phone in the room was on the desk across the room. Need a wakeup call? No problem, just don't expect to answer the phone from bed when it rings. And when you do get up and want to brush your teeth, you'll find the plastic water cups and ice bucket in the closet on the top shelf. I have no idea why they hide the cups and ice bucket on the top shelf of the closet." Obviously not normal, but does this stuff REALY merit a one star review online? Seems super harsh for a dated hotel.

(part of a ONE STAR review): "Took more than 2 hours to get a room." OK, this one is now my favorite because of how petty it is. Obviously, there's a room crunch and a labor crunch. Is having to kill a couple of hours the worst thing that could happen? Who hasn't had to do that at least once in their life? Get over yourself.

(part of a TWO STAR review): "Can't recommend for coffee drinkers. Unlike almost all other hotels, they have removed the coffee pot from the lobby after breakfast. Oh and you have to pay for breakfast." Really? I know that not getting free coffee all day is a bummer but does it really deserve a two star review? That really was the bulk of the complaint.
