Montana’s Deepest Lake is a Hidden Gem for Summer
With summer quickly approaching and warmer temperatures on the way, Montana residents will soon be on the hunt for ways to stay cool. Finding a river or a lake is one of the best ways to beat the summer heat in Big Sky Country.
Montana one of the best states in the country for that exact plan.
Montana is loaded with incredible lakes. Some are famous and get plenty of attention, while others tend to fly under the radar. That's the case with the deepest lake it the entire state.
What's the Deepest Lake in Montana?
Located west of Whitefish in northwestern Montana, you'll find Tally Lake, which holds the title of Montana's deepest lake. Tally Lake is 492 feet deep, which is over 100 feet deeper than Flathead Lake. It's also roughly 20 feet deeper than Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park.
During the summer, Tally Lake is a popular spot for swimming, fishing, kayaking, camping, and more. It's a great place to spend time if you're trying to avoid crowds and find somewhere slightly less chaotic during tourist season.
Tally Lake isn’t overrun. It’s not packed wall-to-wall like some other lakes in Montana. It’s just a clean, beautiful, ridiculously deep lake surrounded by forest, which is exactly what you want when it’s 90 degrees and you need to cool off.
If you're looking for a place to relax this summer that's a little off the beaten path, Tally Lake is a great option. You can escape the crowds and soak in the beauty of one of Montana's hidden gems.
