Shelby, Cut Bank, Browning and Conrad on the northern border are under a Fire Weather Watch for Friday with low humidity, high temps and gusty winds.

FYI - The border with Canada will remain closed to non-essential travel until at least August 21st, 2020 with more extensions possible.

According to the National Weather Service:

  • FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH FRIDAY EVENING
  • LOW HUMIDITY AND GUSTY WINDS
  • In effect from Friday afternoon through Friday evening.
  • WINDS...Southwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
  • RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 17 percent.
  • IMPACTS...New fires igniting in low elevation grassy areas may be difficult to contain.
  • A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible.
  • A combination of gusty winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create high fire growth potential.
