Warning: Strong Winds Again Friday On Fort Peck Lake
Fort Peck Lake is no stranger to windy days, and Friday will be another day for caution. Boaters should pay extra attention, and be conservative with where they go on Friday. Gusty winds will create dangerous waves for smaller boats.
How does wind develop around lakes so often? "Lake breezes develop when the land becomes warmer than the water. The warm air over land rises, and gets replaced by the relatively cool air which resides immediately above the lake surface."
The reservoir is home to many different fish, including: walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, lake trout, and Chinook salmon - to name a few.
According to Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks: (in August 2024) "A new state record has been made for the largest Chinook salmon caught in the state at Fort Peck Lake by Jim Fauth, weighing 32.62 pounds."
