The best hotels in Montana don't necessarily have the best hotel rooms. Huh? Sometimes the biggest, best, and fanciest hotel rooms can be found in common chain hotels. Where are these 'bargain luxury' hotel rooms and how do you book one?

It's pretty simple how to find the biggest and nicest hotel room on the cheap - be flexible and make sure to check for the best rooms at 'mid-level' hotels. The best hotels might offer great deals on good rooms, but rarely do their BEST rooms go on sale.

I was once upgraded to the Presidential Suite at a Hilton property in Great Falls. We were just traveling through so we didn't get to enjoy the huge suite for long. (Bummer!)  But it was very nice - and much larger than any other 'Presidential Suite' I could find in Montana.

  • Hilton Garden Inn Great Falls - Presidential Suite:
  • COST: $475
  • 1 King separate bedroom
  • 2 separate bathrooms
  • For conducting business, this suite includes a large board table
  • Small kitchen area
  • Sofa bed
  • Decorative fireplace

It's always cool to stay at fancier hotels if you can afford it, but sometimes it's just not in the budget. For comparison, we checked one of the nicest hotels in Bozeman - the Kimpton Armory in downtown. It's a wonderful property, and they do have a high end suite.

  • Kimpton Armory Bozeman - Presidential Suite:
  • COST: $1,200
  • 1 King Bed
  • Top floor with a balcony
  • Living area
  • Separate Soaking Tub and Walk-in Shower
  • 3 restaurants/bars on property

You can usually find 'suites' of some kind, if a property doesn't have something super fancy like a 'Presidential Suite'. No big deal. Some normal suites can be quite nice with lots of space and amenities - for a fraction of what you'd pay at the highest end property.
