New Frost Advisory for Counties in Eastern Idaho
It's going to be a very cold night in most of the higher elevations of eastern Idaho on Tuesday night, into Wednesday morning.
"A frost advisory means that frost is expected or occurring, posing a risk to sensitive vegetation. It's typically issued when temperatures are forecast to fall into the mid-30s Fahrenheit (33-36°F), especially on clear and calm nights during the growing season." (National Weather Service)
If you're an active gardener in eastern Idaho, especially in the higher elevations, take face Tuesday night to protect your outdoor plants.
With overnight lows from 32 to 36 degrees, many plants will be in danger from frost - therefore in danger of being frozen and dying.
- A FROST ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TUESDAYTO 10 AM WEDNESDAY.
- WHAT...Temperatures of 32 to 36 degrees will result in frost formation.
- WHERE...Eastern Magic Valley, Shoshone/Lava Beds, Arco/Mud Lake Desert, and Upper Snake River Plain.
- WHEN...From midnight tonight to 10 AM Wednesday.
- IMPACTS...Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation.
- Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold
"A temperature of 28°F (24°F and below) can kill most plants, according to a National Weather Service hard freeze warning. A light freeze (32-29°F) can kill tender plants, while a moderate freeze (28-25°F) can cause widespread damage." (National Weather Service)

Don't let all your hard work planting go to waste overnight. Take good care and cover plants that can't be moved. If they plants CAN be moved, such as those in pots, get them inside a garage or a place that will be warmer than outside!
