Here are the Biggest Wildfires Burning in Montana Right Now

Wildfire season is here, and fires across the west this summer have been absolutely devastating. While Montana hasn't been hit as hard as other states, there are still a few large active fires in Big Sky Country.

For many, the Watch Duty app is the preferred way to stay updated on wildfire activity. It's updated on a regular basis and includes information of wildfires throughout Montana and the rest of the country.

The largest fire in Montana is the Silvertip Fire in the Flathead National Forest, which has already burned over 6,000 acres and is 0% contained.

The Skillet Fire is burning in NW Montana between Whitefish and Libby. It has burned nearly 3,000 acres and is 0% contained.

The Bobcat Lakes Fire (1,829 acres) and the Sand Creek Fire (1400 acres) are both burning in the West Pioneer Wilderness Study Area east of Wisdom.

The Middle Coulee Fire has burned over 1,500 acres (0 contained), and is located between Great Falls and Fort Benton.

The wildfires listed about are the largest burning in Montana. However, we are in the middle of peak fire season, so conditions could get worse before they improve.

If you see a wildfire, call 911 and report it. The sooner the better. Firefighters and resources are already stretched thin, and we need to do everything we can to support them.
