There's a word that most Montanans don't like to say out loud. If you've lived in the state during the winter, you've most likely experienced it. Most people in Montana don't hold back when expressing how much they hate it. I'm talking about the "W."

The "W" in Montana is no joke. Just ask anyone that lives in Livingston. They know all about the "W." It can make temperatures feel much colder during the winter and can ruin a good day of fishing in an instant. Montana is known for a lot of things, but most people would be happy if the "W" weren't one of them.

I had to learn not to use the word the hard way. I was fishing with some friends at Canyon Ferry a couple of years ago and said "Man, this w--- sucks", and was quickly told never to use that word again if I wanted to be invited on future fishing trips. Shortly after, the "W" ruined our trip and we returned to the boat ramp.

Why Don't Montanans Like Talking About The "W"?

I completely understand why most Montanans avoid using the word. People in Livingston can't even find a good spot for the 4th of July Parade ahead of time because the "W" will blow their lawn chairs away. The "W" has also been known to tip over semi trucks on I-90. It can also cause a lot of damage to your home.

Look, I'm not going to spell it out for you. I'm trying my best to describe it without actually typing it out. Just do yourself a favor, and don't use the "W" word.
