New Montanan Needs ‘Bargain Housekeeping’. Immediately Gets Fantastic Responses
I have no idea what newbie Montanans expect when it comes to "hiring help" in Montana, but almost every single one that I've seen ask about it comes across as an entitled, arrogant, too-lazy-to-do-anything-themselves clown. It's uncanny. You've seen this stuff online, right? It's internet gold.
Before we even get to the people online shopping for bargain priced house cleaning services, how on earth are there SO MANY people who can afford to have someone clean their house in the first place? (I'm a pretty frugal person when it comes to things I could probably get done myself, but at this stage in my life - I 'should' be able to afford an occasional house cleaning? After all this research, I don't think so.)
But let's get back to the point - people who are not just searching online forums for house cleaning help, but "inexpensive yet reliable" cleaners that "don't cost an arm and a leg". My favorite is when their request comes with all sorts of stipulations like: only Wednesdays or Sundays, must deep clean fridge weekly, and put away 4,000 Legos to get to anything else.
The responses were varied - but all shared a tone of 'good lord, just do it yourself, you cheap clown'. And well deserved when you ask a community of hard working folks about where to find the 'cheapest' home cleaning help. People in Montana will ROAST you when a) you're a newbie, and b) you sound like an entitled idiot. So let's take a peek at some of the responses locals gave. (Please note that these were taken verbatim and any misspellings or grammatical errors are from the actual response.)
- "Perhaps your cleaning service could get more done if you got the hell out of their way and let them do their job. Your presence is not helping with their efficiency."
- "What is a 'reasonable' price to you? You said you have a husband, two kids, two dogs, and three bathrooms. I'm guessing your house is a disaster. Pay people what they deserve to scrub your toilets."
- "Cheap labor to show up exactly when you want, do exactly what you want them to do exactly how you want it done in record time. Good luck with that."
- "I have cleaned houses for 10 years now. Things should be picked up before I get there. There should not be: personal items, dirty clothes, toys, or food laying about. Dishes are a whole another subject. This is a daily task, not usually my job.
It's weekly cleaning that we do. The exception is if you are elderly and cannot perform these functions efficiently, I would do them for you."
- "You want to pay bargain prices for a stranger to be in your home scrubbing, sanitizing and cleaning your personal space. Best of luck to you. Paying for quality is a much safer bet."
- "Maybe you can find some coupons for daycare too."
- "Professional house cleaning is an incredibly hard job, and those who do it well deserve to be paid well. There are crazy time constraints and maybe you should see how hard scrubbing tile floors on your hands and knees can be."
