
Wind Advisories Across North Dakota Monday: 40+ MPH
If you need to travel through North or South Dakota on Monday, be aware of dozens of Wind Advisories that in effect. Wind gusts of 40 MPH or more could affect road travel, especially for high profile vehicles and towing units.
"A Wind Advisory is issued when the following conditions are expected: 1) sustained winds of 31 to 39 mph for an hour or more. AND/OR. 2) wind gusts of 46 to 57 mph for any duration." (National Weather Service)
FOR NORTH DAKOTA: A WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM CDT /6 PM MDT THIS EVENING
- WHAT...Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph expected.
- WHERE...Far south central North Dakota into parts of the James River Valley.
- WHEN...Until 7 PM CDT /6 PM MDT Monday evening.
- IMPACTS...Objects left unsecured outside will be blown around.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use extra caution.
- Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Wind gusts are expected to be even stronger in many parts of South Dakota through Monday evening. Not only will towing units get tossed around a bit on the roadway, but debris might blow across highways.

- WHAT...Northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts from 45 to 55 mph expected.
- WHERE...Portions of northwestern, south central, and southwestern South Dakota.
- WHEN...Until 6 PM this evening.
- IMPACTS...Sudden wind gusts can cause drivers to lose control, especially in lightweight or high profile vehicles.
- Strong winds can cause blowing dust, reduced visibility, and flying debris.
