There is positive news to report with the Cottonwood Gulch fire burning north of Manhattan, Montana as of Monday afternoon.

Here is the official update from Gallatin County Emergency Management:

More accurate mapping shows the current fire size at 8,300 acres.

Crews are making good progress securing the perimeter with engines, hand crews, and using helicopters for bucket drops on hot spots. The majority of the smoke that has been visible today is from interior islands of unburned fuel.

The progress today has increased the containment of the fire to 15%.

100 firefighters are currently working on the fire.
