Bozeman folks have the best of both worlds: easy access to the outdoors AND easy access to some of the best avalanche education tools in the country. Our Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center exists to keep us safe and the amount of education they supply is amazing.
We received varied amounts of snow last night across the GNFAC area but it added up to a lot...prompting an Avalanche Warning for Tuesday February 7th, 2017.
Warmer temperatures and more (wet) snow have increased the Avalanche danger in the Cooke City area with an Avalanche Warning being issued Monday morning.
The avalanche warning is currently rated HIGH in the Bozeman area along with other ranges in SW Montana. Details here from the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center:
With a controlled blast from Bridger Bowl Ski Patrol on January 5th, a large area south of the boundary line slid in a big way. The Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center guys went up to check it out the next day. Here's what they found:

A fast moving storm deposited 10-12 inches of snow in the mountains around Cooke City and West Yellowstone totaling close to an inch of water. 4-5 inches has fallen in the mountains around Big Sky and 2-3 inches has accumulated in the Bridger and northern Gallatin Ranges...
