What Town Has The Weirdest Name in Montana?
We live in one of the largest states in the U.S. It is safe to say that during our time traveling around the state, we have come across some pretty interesting street names or towns. But, sometimes I have to ask myself " Was everyone drunk back when they founded these towns, or named these roads?"
For example,
Checkerboard, MT
Nimrod, MT
Pray, MT
Ekalaka, MT
And the infamous Joe, MT
Rumor has it that the small town of Ismay was renamed Joe, after the 14 residents decided to name their town after the Hall of Fame NFL Quarterback. It wasn't the first time that the town was renamed either. It used to be called Burt, MT.
According to Wikipedia, Ismay or Joe, MT
"a town in Custer County, Montana, United States. The population was 19 at the 2010 census. The town is the smallest incorporated municipality in the state of Montana. As a publicity stunt coordinated by the Kansas City Chiefs in 1993, the town unofficially took the name of Joe, Montana, after the NFL quarterback Joe Montana."
The website Estately, recently busted out their map and tried to uncover what town in each state has the weirdest name.
Some of my favorites include:
* Booger Hole, West Virginia
*Beer Bottle Crossing, Idaho
*Ding Dong, Texas
What does Estately feel is the town with the weirdest name in Montana?
It is a small town in Choteau county, called BIG SAG.
According to Wikipedia,
Big Sag is an unincorporated community in Chouteau County, in the U.S. state of Montana.
The community took its name from the nearby Big Sag valley. Big Sag has been noted for its unusual place name.
