
Surprise 6″ New Mountain Snow Possible In Montana Overnight
The mountains north of White Sulphur Springs could get up to 6 inches of fresh snow by noon on Monday. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains.
Traveling on Highway 89 overnight on Sunday and the early morning hours of Monday might present challenging driving conditions. A classic Spring storm in the mountains of Montana.
In addition to inches of heavy, wet snow...gusty winds of 30 MPH or more are possible during the advisory period. High elevations in the area could become very sloppy to travel through.
- A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM SUNDAY EVENING UNTIL NOON MONDAY.
- WHAT...Wet snow expected.
- Total snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches.
- Winds gusting as high as 35 mph.
- WHERE...Little Belt and Highwood Mountains.
- WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to noon Monday.
- IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Remember, a Winter Weather Advisory means that there is at least an 80% chance of minor impacts due to winter weather conditions during the advisory period.
Note that whiteout condition could occur at times, and spray from large trucks will be heavy and wet. Reduce speeds and give everyone plenty of space.
"A Winter Weather Advisory is issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) when winter weather conditions are expected that are not severe enough to warrant a warning, but could still pose some challenges to travel and other activities."
These conditions typically include snow, blowing snow, ice, sleet, or a combination of these, and may cause inconvenience and some difficulty.
