This week is turning out to be the epitome of winter in Montana with lots of snow, wind and advisories galore. DANGEROUS winds are possible through Thursday especially in the higher elevations.

According to the National Weather Service:

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 PM THURSDAY.

  • LOCATIONS - MONIDA PASS, RAYNOLDS PASS, TARGHEE PASS, AND WEST YELLOWSTONE.
  • TIMING - PERIODS OF SNOW WILL DEVELOP ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHWEST MONTANA TONIGHT AND WILL CONTINUE TROUGH THE DAY ON THURSDAY.
  • A FEW AREAS OF FREEZING RAIN ARE ALSO POSSIBLE.
  • ICE ACCUMULATIONS - GENERALLY LESS THAN ONE TENTH OF AN INCH.
  • SNOW ACCUMULATIONS - 1 TO 3 INCHES OF SNOW IN THE VALLEYS, 2 TO 8 INCHES FOR WEST YELLOWSTONE AND OVER MOUNTAIN PASSES.
  • WINDS - SOUTHWEST 20 TO 30 MPH. GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH IN THE MOUNTAINS.
  • ROADWAYS WILL BE SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY.
  • VISIBILITY WILL BE REDUCED TO BELOW ONE MILE AT TIMES.
  • BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES... AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
