Winter Weather Advisory Through Sunday Afternoon, 12 Inches Possible
The HIGHEST elevations could see up to a foot of fresh snow this weekend with a Winter Weather Advisory lasting from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. Areas near the Montana/Idaho border should be the most affected. Gusty winds will play a factor in this front as well.
According to the National Weather Service:
- WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 PM SUNDAY FOR SNOW.
- LOCATIONS - MONIDA PASS, RAYNOLDS PASS, TARGHEE PASS, AND WEST YELLOWSTONE.
- SNOW ACCUMULATIONS... 4 TO 12 INCHES... HIGHEST AMOUNTS ACROSS THE PASSES.
- WINDS - SOUTH 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.
- TEMPERATURES... IN THE UPPER 20S TO MID 30S.
- SNOW LEVEL... 5000 FEET RISING TO 6000 FEET.
- DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY ACROSS MOUNTAIN PASSES.
- FOR SPECIFIC ROAD AND TRAVEL CONDITIONS IN MONTANA, DIAL 511.
- CAUTION ADVISED DUE TO SNOWFALL ACROSS THE PASSES ALONG THE MONTANA/IDAHO BORDER FRIDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY AFTERNOON.
- MOIST SOUTHERLY FLOW WILL BRING WET SNOW TO HIGH-ELEVATION LOCATIONS AND MOUNTAIN PASSES NEAR THE MONTANA/IDAHO BORDER FROM INTERSTATE 15 EAST TO THE WEST YELLOWSTONE AREA.
- THE SNOW MAY BECOME HEAVIER DURING THE DAY SUNDAY BEFORE ENDING BY SUNDAY EVENING.
- SNOW IS LIKELY TO MIX WITH OR CHANGE TO RAIN AT TIMES THROUGH NEARBY VALLEYS BELOW 6000FT ELEVATION.
