If you're sad to see a Montana Summer come to an end, the upside is that a Montana Fall can be (and usually is) absolutely breathtaking. The colors that erupt across the state are a photographer's dream and you'll find picture-worthy landscapes almost everywhere you look.

FUN FACT: Did you know that Fall is not as long in the Northern Hemisphere vs. the Southern Hemisphere? It's true. According to TimeAndDate.com, "On average, fall lasts for 89.8 days in the Northern Hemisphere and 92.8 days in the Southern Hemisphere." No matter! Even with 3 fewer days of Fall, Montana makes the best of it.

THE LIST: EVERY MOUNTAIN RANGE IN MONTANA

Fall might be the best season in Montana not just for the stunning landscapes and pretty colors. By October, the summer tourist season is long over and ski season has not yet begun. Fewer out of state guests allows locals to enjoy our state a bit more. Shoulder season has always been day-trip season in my book.

One of the absolute coolest things you can see across Montana are trees that not only change colors, but trees that turn rainbow colors before they lose their leaves. They're special because it takes a bit of time for this to happen, so if the Fall season is super short - you won't get the full show. (No filters have been applied to enhance colors!)

Sometimes the beauty of Fall in Montana isn't about wild, bright colors. Some of the most interesting scenery is draped in shades of gold and brown. With our mountains for the backdrop, you can't really go wrong.

Small city parks can be a goldmine to find pretty Fall colors. When towns put some thought into their small spaces and pocket parks, they get more visual 'bang for their buck'. Stick a few pieces of local art in there and you've got a double whammy cool picture.
