Extremely gusty winds and high temperatures will create dangerous conditions across most of Montana throughout Monday. Expect wind gusts up to 65 MPH and temperatures in the 90s and triple digits.

According to the National Weather Service:

HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM MONDAY TO MIDNIGHT MONDAY NIGHT FOR MOST OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST MONTANA.

WHAT...West winds 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph, are expected.

WHERE...Beaverhead, Broadwater, Gallatin, Jefferson and Madison Counties. Also portions of central, north central, and west central Montana. Blaine and Hill Counties. Flathead Lake in Flathead/Mission Valleys. Bitterroot Valley, Missoula, Highway 93 Sula to Lost Trail Pass, and Lolo Pass are also included.

Waves 1 to 3 feet with west winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 30 mph expected on Flathead Lake.

WHEN...From 9 AM Monday to Midnight Monday Night.

  • IMPACTS...Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines.
  • Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust could significantly reduce visibility at times.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...These strong winds could make firefighting difficult on new or pre-existing fires.
  • People are urged to secure loose objects on their property that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Pick up lawns, porches and decks to avoid items blowing away.

HEAT ADVISORIES REMAIN IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY for almost the entire eastern half of the state of Montana. Over two dozen counties are, and will continue to reach triple digit heat. Combined with gusty winds, fire weather conditions will exist. Extreme caution should be used with towing units.
