Watch Bjork’s Music Video for ‘Lionsong’
Björk has debuted the first music video from her latest album, Vulnicura, for the track, “Lionsong.” True to the Icelandic artist’s style, it’s not quite like anything we’ve seen before -- check it out above (via Noisey).
Dressed in colorful feathers, the clip features Björk singing her heart out, fittingly interspersed with images of a plastic-looking heart pulsating. Björk’s collaborators and Dutch creative team Inez & Vinoodh helmed the new video, while production house Framestore handled the visual effects and Company 3’s Tim Masick worked on its vibrant coloring.
“Björk’s character for ‘Lionsong’ had to be smooth like a spider waiting in her web and seductive like a Balinese dancer cast in bronze,” Inez & Vinoodh said in a press release. “She is seen as if under a microscope, baring her heart while luring us inside the bloody galaxy of her own wound.”
“Inez & Vinoodh had some fantastic ideas about what they wanted and supplied some beautiful initial reference, that had a painterly style not dissimilar to traditional religious iconography, of characters covered in starlight,” Framestore’s Matt Pascuzzi added. “That, along with their existing album artwork, gave us some pretty beautiful reference to work from and I am immensely proud of our New York compositing and 3D teams who, in every sense, did this job for the art.”
Recently, Björk was the subject of a BBC documentary in honor of Internatioanl Women’s Day. The singer’s career is also on display as a retrospective exhibit at the New York Museum of Modern Art. It’s already underway and will run through June 7.
