Look: Google Earth Shows a Very Weird Thing in Montana
Of all the weird things you can find on Google Maps, Montana might be home to one of the most charming landmarks. When you search Google for 'cool stuff in Montana' - this isn't something that comes up - until now.
There are many groups dedicated to finding weird stuff on Google Earth. Finding something new and strange from above, is the goal of groups such as "Google Earth, Structures and Anomalies" on Facebook - they have over 2.3 million members.
You can find all sorts of weird stuff on Google Earth, such as:
- a giant KFC logo
- super funny street names in Novia Scotia
- the "End of the World Cinema" in Egypt (with rows of seats in the middle of the desert)
- a 'crashed' UFO in Italy
- a military jet flying over Oklahoma
- a huge pentagram in Kazakhstan
We were curious if Montana was home to anything weird, that can be seen by Google Earth. If so, what is it? Would it be natural or man made? Perhaps an ancient meteor crater? Or maybe a landowner with a sense of humor, carving something into a field?
Montana has a perfect 'heart shaped' mountain, and it's about the cutest thing you'll see on Google Earth today. It's literally shaped like a perfect heart - no head tilting or enhancing required.
A great little town to enjoy on a day trip to this area is Glen. If you've only ever taken the I-15 route, you've probably missed the tiny town. If you scoot over to MT-90, you'll drive right into Glen, and have a marvelous view of McCartney Mountain and the Big Hole.

The Glen Bar is apparently worth a stop if you're in the area. It's very well reviewed, family-owned business:
- The owners of this establishment are amazing people! Just like family!!! We look forward to visiting them every year when we go hunting.
- Fun bar! Great bartenders and a great atmosphere highly recommend stopping by and grabbing a drink!
- Very friendly place, the owners and the patrons are very friendly. Definitely worth the stop!! Food is just pizza but if you stay long enough you'll get popcorn!
Zoomed out, this is what you can see on Google Maps or Google Earth over Montana with the identifying labels and landmarks:
You can clearly see the heart shaped mountain, known as McCartney Mountain. It's located just west of Twin Bridges, and it will take you about an hour to drive there. (Driving our of TB, south along MT-41.)
It appears, the elevation of McCartney Mountain is about 8,300 feet. There's another peak named Bell Peak, with an elevation of 7,800 feet. The beautiful Big Hole River flows around McCartney Mountain's southern border.
