Starting Wednesday evening, portions of Montana east of Glacier National Park could experience some serious and dangerous wind gusts of up to 80 MPH. Several counties are under this High Wind Watch until Thursday evening.

The affected areas in northwest and north central Montana under a High Wind Watch include: East Glacier Village, Browning, Heart Butte, Valier, Cut Bank, Sunburst, Kevin, Choteau, Vaughn, Great Falls, Cascade, Grassland Hutterite Colony, Stockett, and Stanford.

Part of the Bob Marshall Wilderness area in also included in the High Wind Watch for Wednesday evening through Thursday evening.

  • WHAT...Southwest winds 40 to 50 mph, with gusts up to 80 mph, are possible.
  • WHERE...The Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent foothills and plains.
  • WHEN...From Wednesday evening through Thursday evening.
  • IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause isolated power outages.
  • Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
  • Remember, a High Wind Watch means that there is at least a 50% chance of 40 mph sustained winds or 58 mph wind gusts occurring during the watch period.

Wind gusts of 80 MPH can be deadly if you're caught driving when they occur. High profile vehicles can/will sway into other lanes. Debris can/will get blown across the road. If there is snowfall, whiteout conditions can happen without notice.
