
Wind Advisory for Fort Peck Lake Through Tuesday
Gusty winds are affecting safety on Fort Peck Lake all day on Monday, and will continue through Tuesday evening. Folks looking to head out on the lake need to use caution.
This Lake Wind Advisory includes the Fort Peck Reservoir and Recreation Area. Fort Peck Lake is Montana's largest body of water and is extremely popular for fishing and recreation in that part of Montana.
- A LAKE WIND ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT TO 7 PM THIS EVENING.
- WHAT...Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected.
- WHERE...Fort Peck Lake
- WHEN...Until 7 PM this evening.
- IMPACTS...Strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Wave heights of 2 to 4 feet are expected on the open waters of Fort Peck Lake this afternoon.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Boaters on Fort Peck Lake should use extra caution since strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.
"The reservoir was created from 1933 through 1937 by constructing a 3.8 mile-long dam across the Missouri River. Some of the hotly pursued species include walleye (a priority among the serious anglers!), northern pike, paddlefish, sauger, lake trout, small mouth bass and chinook salmon." (Visit MT)
According to Visit MT: "More than 50 different kinds of fish swim in Fort Peck Reservoir, Montana's largest body of water. The lake is about 134 miles in length and has a maximum depth of 220 feet when full. There are over 1,520 miles of shoreline, longer than the California coast."
