Hello, February! Almost the entire state of Montana will have weather issues Tuesday evening and Wednesday with another round of snow and very cold temperatures heading our way.

Missoula, Helena, Butte, Bozeman, Great Falls, and the northern tier of the state are all under some sort of Winter Weather Advisory with several counties facing some brutal wind chill numbers in the coming days.

Places such a Havre in the northern part of the state are bracing for wind chills of -30. THOSE are dangerous temperatures so preparations should be made. Traveling during this time can become hazardous, and even worse should a breakdown occur.

NEED TO CHECK THE MDT CAMS ACROSS THE STATE? No problem. The Montana Department of Transportation has tons of cameras on the most traveled roadways and mountain passes. These can be a lifesaver when you need to SEE what's happening.

According to the National Weather Service for Gallatin County: (Bozeman Area)

  • WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TUESDAY TO 8 AM WEDNESDAY.
  • WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations up to two inches.
  • WHERE...Broadwater, Gallatin, Jefferson and Madison Counties.
  • WHEN...From Noon Tuesday to 8 AM Wednesday.
  • IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.

According to the National Weather Service for Great Falls:

  • WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM WEDNESDAY.
  • WHAT...Snow. Additional snow accumulations up to 3 inches.
  • WHERE...Cascade, Fergus, Judith Basin, Meagher and Central and Southern Lewis and Clark Counties.

USE CAUTION IF YOU MUST TRAVEL DURING THIS PERIOD. Truly, just about every county in the state is going to experience some sketchy weather.

Although snowfall totals are not expected to be large, the gusty winds and low temperatures will not only create difficult driving conditions with very low visibility, but VERY dangerous circumstances should you find yourself stuck on the side of the road.

Always use your headlights while traveling in winter conditions. Check that emergency kit and the basics such as windshield wipers and wiper fluid.
