North 19th: What Happens When Gigantic Road Construction Project Begins
Major road construction on North 19th in Bozeman is starting on Monday, April 14th. Drivers can expect lane closures, delays, and detours. Here is what's included in this Montana Department of Transportation project:
This North 19th road construction is being called a "pavement preservation" project. It will run the entire length of North 19th from Main Street all the way north to I-90 overpass. Patience from drivers is going to be a must during this project.
"Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements will occur at select intersections throughout the project area."
NOTE: ADA improvements don't just benefit those with mobility issues. Those improvements make intersections and street crossings safer for EVERYONE who uses them. -Michelle
Details here are from the Montana Department of Transportation. It includes milling off old pavement, replacing the pavement, upgrades to signals, and improvement to intersections along with pedestrian accessibility.
"This project will also add dedicated turn lanes at the intersection of E. Valley Center Road and N.19th, and N. 19th to eastbound I-90. This work will involve pavement widening along both locations. In addition to a turn lane along N. 19th, sidewalk connectivity will be added from E. Valley Center Road through I-90."
Although this is a very major project and will probably be inconvenient for drivers on North 19th at times, there will be big improvements in the end for both drivers and pedestrians.
"Lane reconfiguration at the intersection with the I-90 eastbound ramps will include an additional northbound through lane. This lane reconfiguration will address long queue lengths at the intersection."
Electronic signs surrounding the project area state that work is to begin on Monday, April 14th. Drivers can expect lane closures in the overnight hours, beginning at 7pm.
"The N. 19th Avenue—Bozeman project will mill off the upper layer of pavement and replace it with new pavement. This project also includes signal upgrades and pedestrian accessibility improvements."
An exact schedule of work details has not been released, but we will continually post all information from MDOT as it becomes available. We'll do that here, and on our socials.
