
Wildfire Risks Rise As Red Flag Warnings Blanket Wyoming
A huge portion of Wyoming is experiencing dangerous Red Flag Warnings which means that conditions are ripe for wildfires. Warm temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds are occurring in several counties.
Northern Wyoming generally has lower temperatures than southern counties, but the erratic conditions stretch the entire length of the state.
Although these Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Thursday, it is quite possible that they will be extended as warm temperatures are expected to continue.
Any towing units should be extra careful to make sure no chains are dragging. Those can easily spark and start a wildfire on the side of the road.
- A RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM THURSDAY EVENING.
- IMPACTS: Low Humidity...Hot Temperatures...and Strong Gusty Winds could cause erratic fire behavior.
- AFFECTED AREA: In Central WY...Fire Weather Zones 283 and 288.
- COUNTIES AFFECTED: In Central WY...Fremont. In West Central WY...Sublette.
- WIND: West 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.
- Higher gusty winds begin across Zone 288 and western Zone 283 and push east across Zone 283 by 1500.
- HUMIDITY: 10 to 15 percent.
- TEMPERATURES: Highs in the mid 80s.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now....or will shortly.
- A combination of strong winds...low relative humidity...and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
