The food scene in Montana has come a long way in recent years. One of the best ways to enjoy the culinary talent and locally grown food is to attend a food and wine festival. Montana has many of them across the state that are held throughout the year.

Montana has big festivals along with smaller, focused events. Some are fancy and expensive, while others are absolute ticket bargains. Food festivals might be focused on a season or a fruit. It just depends. (Don't miss the 'pro tips' below!)

Going to a food festival in Montana is a good way to understand a town. Eating and drinking with locals and other visitors alike, brings us together.

Tickets to food and wine festivals often come in various levels. You can buy VIP tickets for an elevated experience, or general admission tickets to simply attend and enjoy. If you're not into wine, sometimes you can buy a cheaper ticket just for food.

List: Best Food & Wine Festivals

Get the most out of a food festival in Montana by making a vacation out of it and enjoying the town for a few days. We went to Old Salt this year and it was in a part of Montana I had never been to - we fixed that with a road trip. Five days in the area and now I feel like an expert.

PRO TIP: Local wine shops often know about food and wine events first. Obviously, wine shops and wine bars sponsor wine and food events - they often help organize and throw those events. Sign up for their newsletters or VIP clubs so you get their newsletters.
