Montana Is Not Very Adventurous In Their Sushi Ordering
Gone are the days when landlocked states didn't have good seafood. Montana loves sushi and fresh fish is flown in daily across the state. Where is the best sushi in Montana? That depends on what you're into.
If you love the simple, yet delicious California Roll - you can get a very decent one almost anywhere these days. If you're far more adventurous with your sushi eating, you might have to search for one of the fantastic, smaller, high-end sushi rooms. Far more pricey but worth it.
We probably won't find any Keiji salmon in Montana, since it's perhaps the "fanciest" of salmon and only served at the best restaurants in Japan. (1 in 10,000 salmon that are caught are of the Keiji variety.)
So what are the most popular and most-ordered sushi rolls? The top rolls are the same at almost any sushi restaurant. They're delicious, have simple ingredients, and don't cost very much (in the sushi world):
- California Roll
- Spicy Tuna Roll
- Alaska Roll
- Dragon Roll
- Shrimp Tempura Roll
- Salmon Roll
- Spider Roll
- Caterpillar Roll
- Unagi Roll
- Tiger Roll
- Cucumber Roll
- Philadelphia Roll
What is some of the most exotic sushi, that you probably won't find anywhere in Montana? It's not just Montanans that shy away from the rare and 'funky' sushi options. Would you ever try Fugu (pufferfish), Funazushi (years old fermented fish), Kurage (jellyfish), or Kohada (gizzard shad)?

We talked to one of our local sushi chefs and he said that it's not unusual to have 70% of his orders on any given night to be California Rolls and Spicy Tuna Rolls. There's nothing wrong with that - hey, order what you love. But if you ever find yourself ordering sushi in Japan, ask for the Keiji salmon! Enjoy.
