A High Wind Warning is affecting several counties in northern Montana through Friday night with gusty winds of 60 to 75 mph in towns like Shelby and Havre.

According to the National Weather Service:

HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM FRIDAY TO MIDNIGHT FRIDAY NIGHT.

  • WHAT...West winds of 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph, are expected.
  • Wind gusts up to 75 mph are possible along the Rocky Mountain Front, especially in wind prone areas.
  • WHERE...Northern Rocky Mountain Front, Eastern Glacier county, Toole,
    Eastern Pondera and Southern Rocky Mountain Front, Hill and Blaine counties.
  • WHEN...From 11 AM Friday to midnight MDT Friday night.
  • These strong winds could blow down limbs, trees, and power lines.
  • A few power outages are possible.
  • Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles and lightweight trailers.
  • People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind.
