Montana is grizzly bear country, and the recent report of a woman getting mauled to death near West Yellowstone is a stark reminder that if you plan on spending time outdoors, you need to be bear-aware.

Grizzly bear sightings have been reported this year in places where you normally don't see them. They are actively migrating out of the Yellowstone area. There was a confirmed sighting in the Shields Valley and another in the Pryor Mountain range. Wherever you happen to be in Montana, there's a chance that you might have an encounter with a grizzly. You don't necessarily have to be in a National Park.

How to be Bear Aware in Montana?

One thing that's important to do is make a lot of noise in an attempt to scare bears away. People often clap their hands and shout "Hey Bear" to deter bears.

Loud noise, such as banging pots and pans, using an air horn or your car alarm, or shouting, is a simple, effective short-term way to deter a bear on private property.

says Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks.

You don't just have to say "Hey Bear." There are other creative things you can say to keep bears at bay. For instance, people on social media and at public events are quick to express their political beliefs and share them with others. Remember when everyone was chanting "Let's Go, Brandon?" Bears may not care about your political affiliation, but that doesn't mean you don't have to tell them about it.

Political Phases to Scream at Grizzly Bears in Montana

The next time you're in bear country, here are some popular political phrases to shout at the top of your lungs instead of something boring like "Hey Bear." You will most likely scare the bears aware because they really don't like talking about politics.

  1. "Let's Go, Brandon"
  2. "You're a Snow Flake"
  3. "Liberals are Ruining America"
  4. "I Bet You Voted For Biden"
  5. "I Bet You Voted For Trump"
  6. "Go Back to Where You Came From"
  7. "You're a Woke Bear"
  8. "I Bet You Watch Tucker Carlson"
  9. "Make America Great Again"
  10. "Build Back Better"

Okay, so I'm joking. I don't really think you should yell any of the things listed above while out in the woods. I just thought it would be funny to hear someone scream "Let's Go, Brandon" or something similar at a bear in the middle of the wilderness. I hope you got a good laugh.

On a serious note, it is extremely important to be bear-aware in Montana. Here are a few safety tips.
