Heavy Fog in Northern Montana Makes Travel Difficult, Limited Visibility
Several counties in northern Montana are experiencing dangerous travel conditions due to dense fog Thursday morning. An advisory is in effect for the following areas until 11am Thursday.
In addition, temperatures are cold enough for this dense fog to be freezing in some locations. Bridges and overpasses are more susceptible to icing up due to freezing fog. No matter what, low visibility is the broader concern.
- A DENSE FOG ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM THURSDAY MORNING.
- WHAT...Visibility one quarter to one half mile in dense freezing fog.
- WHERE...Eastern Toole and Liberty Counties, Eastern Pondera and Eastern Teton Counties, Hill County, and Western and Central Chouteau County.
- WHEN...Until 11 AM Thursday morning.
- IMPACTS...Low visibility and icy roadways could make driving conditions hazardous.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If driving, slow down, use your headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you.
After these Fog Advisories, the same areas and more will experience High Wind Watches through Sunday morning. Very strong gusts up to 85 MPH are possible through the weekend.
- A HIGH WIND WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.
- WHAT...Southwest winds 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 85 mph possible.
- WHERE...The Rocky Mountain Front and adjacent foothills and plains.
- East Glacier, Browning, Heart Butte, and Choteau are included.
- WHEN...From Friday afternoon through Sunday morning.
- IMPACTS...High winds may move loose debris, damage property and cause power outages.
- Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...After a period of stronger winds Friday evening, a brief lull in the strongest winds is forecast early Saturday before the strongest period of winds Saturday night.
