
New Warning for SW Montana: Painful Wind Chill and More Snow This Weekend
This weekend is going to be filled with weather curveballs in Montana. A few inches of snow is expected, but for southwest Montana - it's the brutal wind chill of -35 Saturday night into Sunday morning that is concerning.
Places like West Yellowstone are in the crosshairs of this cold front, and extra caution should be taken when traveling in that area this weekend. It's fairly remote to begin with and any breakdown issues could be more dangerous.
- Southwest Montana: A COLD WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT TO 11 AM SUNDAY.
- WHAT...Very cold temperatures as low as 35 below expected.
- WHERE...Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
- WHEN...From midnight Saturday Night to 11 AM Sunday.
- IMPACTS...Frostbite can occur in less than 10 minutes in these temperatures.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The coldest temperatures will be around West Yellowstone and Red Rock Lake.
- PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.

Many other counties across Montana are under Winter Weather Advisories for most of Friday. A few inches of snow is expected in most locations under an advisory, but wind along with much colder temperatures becomes a triple threat this weekend.

Travel should be assessed carefully, as these weather conditions can be very dangerous. Getting stuck or having roadside issues in brutal cold temperatures is very unpleasant at best....deadly at worst.

- Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches.
- WHERE...Beartooth Foothills and Red Lodge Foothills.
- WHEN...Until 8 PM Friday evening.
- IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions.
- The hazardous conditions could impact the morning and evening commute Friday
