Storm Warning: Montana Could See 10″ Of Urgently Needed Snow

The mountains of western Montana might score 8 to 10 inches of fresh snow by Sunday afternoon. Warnings and advisories have been issued for just about every western county, but some higher elevations might receive nearly a foot of snow.

Montana has had some cold temperatures so far this winter, but for the most part it's been 'warm' and we have not received nearly enough snow. Many SNOTEL locations are reading less than half of average snow water equivalent. Some good snowfall is exactly what we need.

• WHAT...Periods of snow. Heavy at times.
• Additional snow accumulations between 2 and 8 inches.
• WHERE...Big Belt, Bridger and Castle Mountains, Elkhorn and Boulder Mountains, Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, Upper Blackfoot and MacDonald Pass, and Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
• WHEN...Until 5 PM Sunday.
• IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous.

• WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 1 and 3 inches below 5000 feet, 4 to 6 inches in Butte, and 6 to 10 inches elsewhere.
• WHERE...Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 Garrison to Elliston, MacDonald Pass, Homestake Pass, and Butte.
• WHEN...From 8 PM Friday night to 11 AM Sunday.
